ERRATA - Consumer Expenditure Public-Use Microdata
June 27, 2019
To users of the 2017 Consumer Expenditure Public Use Microdata Files:
In the 2018Q1 files, data were reprocessed due to some expenditure values having been imputed in error in the INB, HHP, and OPI files that should have been left as valid blanks.
Although the tables were impacted by this issue, the size of the changes does not meet the CE program’s threshold criteria for republication.
The impact of the errors is as follows:
- 959 INB records, or 17 percent of all non-health insurance - homeowner's, renter's, and car insurance for the quarter,
- 1,269 HHP records, or 8 percent of all private health insurance records for the quarter, and
- 1,541 OPI records, or 24 percent of all OPI records, specifically in the JFEETOTX variable, which is for expenditures on condo/co-op/HOA fees is mapped to various expenses such as utilities, repairs/maintenance, and other items.
No additional addenda are necessary, as the files currently available for download have the appropriate addenda applied. The corrected addenda were added on June 27, 2019. Previous versions of the 2017 PUMD should be replaced with the current files available online.
