ERRATA – 2023 Consumer Expenditure Surveys Public Use Microdata Summary Variables

To users of the 2023 Consumer Expenditure Surveys Public Use Microdata Diary and Interview files released on September 25, 2024: There 2023 data has been reprocessed to correct several summary variables on the FMLI and FMLD files.

1. For quarters 2, 3, and 4 of 2023, as well as quarter 1 of 2024, FMLI variables GASMOPQ/GASMOCQ have been reinstated. These values were present on the 2022 and earlier files but weren’t initially included on the 2023 files. GASMOPQ/GASMOCQ are comprised of the following UCCs: 470111, 470112, 470113, 470212.

Subsequently, the higher level aggregate summary variables (TRANSPQ/TRANSCQ, TOTEXPPQ/TOTEXPCQ, and TOTEX4PQ/TOTEX4CQ) that GASMOPQ/GASMOCQ are a component of, have also been updated accordingly.

 

2. FMLD files for all quarters (1 – 4) of 2023 contained summary variables that utilized outdated definitions. The following FMLD summary variables were updated to account for new definitions:

In addition, the higher level aggregate summary variables FOODHOME and FOODTOT have been updated accordingly.

The UCC costs in MTBI/EXPD have not changed, the processing changes in this errata only affects the value of the summary variables on FMLI/FMLD.
