Hires increase 2.4 million in May; job openings rise while layoffs and discharges fall


Job openings and hires increased in May to 5.4 million and 6.5 million, respectively. Hires experienced the largest 1-month increase since the series began. Total separations decreased to 4.1 million in May, with layoffs and discharges falling by 5.9 million and quits increasing by 190,000.
