Producer Price Index for final demand rose 0.7 percent over the year ending September 2016

The Producer Price Index for final demand rose 0.7 percent between September 2015 and September 2016, the index's largest 12-month percentage increase since the year ending December 2014. The price index for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services, representing 69 percent of the final demand index, increased 1.5 percent over the year, the largest 12-month percentage increase since November 2014.

From September 2015 to September 2016, prices for final demand foods declined 3.5 percent. Prices for final demand energy decreased by 2.5 percent, the smallest over-the-year percentage decrease for final demand energy prices since the year ending September 2014. Prices for final demand trade services were unchanged over the preceding 12 months, following 8 months of over-the-year price increases.
