U.S. import prices down 0.2 percent over the year ending October 2016

U.S. import prices edged down 0.2 percent from October 2015 to October 2016. Import prices have not risen over a 12-month period since a gain of 0.9 percent from July 2013 to July 2014. The October 2016 decline was the smallest during the recent streak of declines. Import fuel prices rose 3.8 percent from October 2015 to October 2016, the first 12-month gain since a 2.9-percent increase in July 2014. Prices for nonfuel imports fell 0.4 percent over the year ended in October 2016.
