Unemployment rates fell over the year by at least 10.0 percentage points in an additional seven areas, including Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, Michigan (–13.9 percentage points), Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, Florida (–12.5 points), and Kahului-Wailuku-Lahaina, Hawaii (–12.1 points).

Changes of +0.3 percentage points or less occurred in Owensboro, Kentucky, and Lewiston-Auburn and Bangor, both in Maine.

Higher unemployment rates, compared with the national June 2021 rate of 6.1 percent, were seen in 124 metro areas; 4 areas had rates equal to that of the nation, while 261 areas had jobless rates lower than the national rate.

El Centro, California, and Yuma, Arizona, both near the southern section of the California-Arizona border, had the highest unemployment rates in June: 17.5 percent and 20.4 percent, respectively. Eight more areas had unemployment rates of at least 10.0 percent in June 2021.

Logan, Utah-Idaho, had the lowest unemployment rate in June 2021, 2.4 percent, followed by Lincoln, Nebraska, 2.5 percent, and Idaho Falls, Idaho, 2.6 percent. Six other areas had jobless rates of less than 3.0 percent.

Among metropolitan areas with a 2010 Census population of 1 million or more, Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise, Nevada, and Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, California, had the highest unemployment rates, 9.6 percent and 9.5 percent, respectively. At 3.2 percent, Salt Lake City, Utah, had the lowest unemployment rate among these large metropolitan areas, followed by Birmingham-Hoover, Alabama, with a jobless rate of 3.4 percent. All 51 large metro areas had over-the-year unemployment rate decreases for the year ending June 2021.
