All of the 10 largest U.S. counties had over-the-year percentage increases in employment in September 2021. Miami-Dade, Florida, had the largest over-the-year percentage increase in employment (+7.6 percent), followed by Los Angeles, California, at 7.0 percent. National employment increased 4.4 percent over the same period.

All of the 10 largest U.S. counties had over-the-year percentage increases in average weekly wages in the third quarter of 2021. Miami-Dade, Florida, had the largest over-the-year percentage gain in average weekly wages (+10.4 percent), followed by Maricopa, Arizona (7.6 percent). Average weekly wages for the nation increased 6.7 percent over the year.
Only one of the largest 10 counties had a decrease in the number of establishments from September 2020 to September 2021. Establishments in New York, New York, decreased 3.7 percent over the year, while the largest increases were in Maricopa, Arizona (7.2 percent) and Miami-Dade, Florida (6.9 percent). Nationally, the number of establishments increased 4.8 percent over the year.
