Employment increased in 84 of 389 metropolitan areas from May 2022 to May 2023

Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 84 metropolitan areas from May 2022 to May 2023, decreased in 1 area, and was essentially unchanged in 304 areas. The metropolitan areas with the largest percentage increases over the year were Midland, Texas (7.7 percent), Rome, Georgia (6.7 percent), and Corvallis, Oregon (6.3 percent). The largest employment increases were New York-Newark-Jersey City, New York-New Jersey-Pennsylvania (254,700), Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (172,300), and Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, California (143,400).
