Final demand producer prices up 1.6 percent over the year ended August 2023

The Producer Price Index for final demand increased 1.6 percent (not seasonally adjusted) for the 12 months ended in August 2023. The 12-month percent change in total final demand prices was 0.1 percent in June and 0.8 percent in July 2023. A year earlier, in August 2022, final demand producer prices had increased 8.7 percent in the preceding 12 months.

Prices for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services rose 3.0 percent for the year ended August 2023, the largest increase since moving up 3.4 percent for the 12 months ended in April 2023.
Prices for final demand goods increased 0.5 percent over the year ended in August 2023 after 12-month decreases in May, June, and July.
Within the final demands goods category, producer prices for foods and energy decreased 0.7 percent and 2.8 percent, respectively, over the year ended August 2023. Producer prices for final demand goods not including foods and energy increased 1.8 percent over the year.
Prices for final demand services increased 2.2 percent over the past year.
Prices for final demand trade services decreased 0.7 percent, while transportation and warehousing services were down 4.1 percent over the past 12 months.
