The Producer Price Index for final demand rose 1.3 percent from October 2022 to October 2023, compared with an 8.2-percent increase for the year ended in October 2022, and an 8.9-percent increase for the year ended in October 2021. From October 2022 to October 2023, producer prices for goods fell 1.1 percent, while producer prices for services increased 2.6 percent. Construction prices rose 0.7 percent over the same period.

Within the foods category, producer prices declined for fresh and dry vegetables (−41.8 percent), grains (−32.1 percent), fresh fruits and melons (−18.1 percent), shortening and cooking oils (−12.0 percent), finfish and shellfish (−7.2 percent), and dairy products (−6.2 percent). On a 12-month basis, the decrease in fresh fruits and melons prices was the largest since May 2011, and the decrease in fresh and dry vegetables prices was the largest since February 2012.
Producer prices increased for processed fruits and vegetables (11.6 percent), soft drinks (5.7 percent), bakery products (4.9 percent), and frozen specialty food (3.6 percent) from October 2022 to October 2023.
