Real weekly earnings down 1.6 percent for year ending March 2023

Real average hourly earnings for all private nonfarm employees decreased 0.7 percent from March 2022 to March 2023. Real earnings are earnings that have been adjusted for changes in consumer prices. The decline in real average hourly earnings combined with a decrease of 0.9 percent in the average workweek resulted in a 1.6-percent decrease in real average weekly earnings over this period.

Real average hourly earnings for production and nonsupervisory employees increased 0.5 percent from March 2022 to March 2023. The increase in real average hourly earnings combined with a decrease of 0.6 percent in the average workweek resulted in a 0.1-percent decrease in real average weekly earnings over this period.
