Job openings rates decreased in 3 states and were little changed in 47 states and the District of Columbia in March 2025. The decreases in job openings rates occurred in Massachusetts (−1.5 percentage points), New Mexico (−1.2 points), and New York (−0.5 point). Over the month, the national job openings rate changed little, at 4.3 percent. There were 34 states that had job openings rates at or above the national rate.

Minnesota had the highest job openings rate, at 5.8 percent, followed by Alaska (5.6 percent). The District of Columbia had the lowest job openings rate (3.4 percent), followed by California (3.5 percent).
The number of job openings decreased in 5 states and changed little in 45 states and the District of Columbia in March. The largest decreases in the job openings level occurred in Massachusetts (−59,000), New York (−46,000), and New Jersey (−30,000). Nationally, the number of job openings changed little.
