Job openings rates increased in 2 states in November 2024

Job openings rates increased in 2 states, decreased in 2 states, and were little changed in 46 states and the District of Columbia in November 2024. The national job openings rate (4.8 percent) was little changed over the month. The increases in job openings rates occurred in North Carolina (+0.9 percentage point) and California (+0.5 percentage point). The decreases occurred in Colorado (−2.7 percentage points) and Maine (−1.0 percentage point).

Six states had job openings rates at or above 6.0 percent: Kentucky and West Virginia (6.9 percent), Alaska (6.6 percent), Virginia (6.5 percent), North Carolina (6.1 percent), and South Carolina (6.0 percent). California was among those with the most job openings (724,000), followed by Texas (673,000) and Florida (532,000).

The number of job openings increased in 3 states, decreased in 2 states, and changed little in 45 states and the District of Columbia in November. Increases in the job openings level occurred in California (+98,000), Texas (+82,000), and North Carolina (+53,000). Decreases occurred in Colorado (−92,000) and Maine (−7,000). Nationally, the number of job openings (8.1 million) changed little.
