Eight of the 10 most populous U.S. counties had over-the-year increases in employment in December 2024. In Miami-Dade, Florida, employment increased to 1,279,800, the largest over-the-year percentage increase in employment, 1.1 percent. Education and health services was the county's second largest industry, with employment of 215,400, but had the largest employment increase, a gain of 3,808 (or +1.8 percent). Construction had the largest percentage employment gain in Miami-Dade (+3.9 percent).

Employment in Maricopa, Arizona (in the Phoenix area), increased 1.0 percent over the year. Education and health services, second in size only to trade, transportation, and utilities, had the largest percentage gain in the county (+4.5 percent).
In New York, New York (Manhattan) and in Harris, Texas (part of the Houston area), employment grew by 0.8 percent. Leisure and hospitality (+2.7 percent) had the largest gain in New York. In Harris, construction (+2.2 percent) had the most growth.
