Employer costs for employee compensation in Miami area averaged $37.84 in March 2026

On July 28, 1896, the City of Miami was officially incorporated. One hundred and thirty years later this small settlement along the Miami River is part of a dynamic metropolitan area employing around 3.1 million people.

Miami-Port St. Lucie-Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is among the 15 largest areas for which the Employer Costs for Employee Compensation publishes average compensation per hour worked for private industry workers. In March 2016, this area’s total hourly compensation costs for private industry workers averaged $28.34; in March 2026, it averaged $37.84. Wages and salaries accounted for $27.71 or 73.2 percent of the total in March 2026, while the remaining $10.13 (26.8 percent) reflected employer costs for benefits.
