Consumer Expenditure Surveys

Changes with the 2025 annual release of Consumer Expenditure data

The 2024-2025 tabular estimates (2-year means tables by geographic areas and 2-year means cross-tabulated tables) will not be published with the 2025 annual release of Consumer Expenditure data, scheduled for October 29, 2026. BLS used the standard Balanced Repeated Replication (BRR) method for estimating standard errors prior to the 2025 annual release. BLS will calculate standard errors using Fay's method, a variant of BRR, with the 2025 annual release. This new method will produce more robust variance measures. Due to this difference in variance estimation methodology across the 2 years, BLS will not produce 2-year tabular estimates for 2024-2025. For more information, see standard errors in the Consumer Expenditure Surveys.
