JOLTS Home

The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) program of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) produces monthly and annual estimates of job openings, hires, and separations for the nation. The JOLTS program also produces monthly state estimates for all 50 states and the District of Columbia at the total nonfarm industry level.

7.2 million job openings in August 2025

The number of total nonfarm job openings was unchanged at 7.2 million in August 2025. Over the month, nonfarm hires and separations were little changed at 5.1 million each. Within separations, both quits (3.1 million) and layoffs and discharges (1.7 million) were little changed. read more »
