Among the states, Illinois and Nevada had the largest unemployment rate declines from October 2013 to October 2014. In Illinois, the unemployment rate declined from 9.1 percent in October 2013 to 6.6 percent in October 2014—a decline of 2.5 percentage points. The jobless rate in Nevada declined by 2.3 percentage points (from 9.4 percent to 7.1 percent) over the same period. Colorado's unemployment rate dropped from 6.5 percent in October 2013 to 4.3 percent in October 2014 (-2.2 percentage points).

In addition to Illinois, Nevada, and Colorado, there were 24 other states that had smaller but also statistically significant rate decreases over the 12 months ending in October 2014. The remaining 23 states and the District of Columbia had unemployment rates that were not appreciably different from those of a year earlier.
