Household furnishings and supplies prices down 1.6 percent over the year ending February 2018

Over the year ending February 2018, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) household furnishings and supplies index decreased 1.6 percent, compared with a 2.2-percent increase in the CPI-U for all items. Household furnishings and supplies makes up about 3.4 percent of the total CPI-U market basket.

Within the household furnishings and supplies index, prices for clocks, lamps, and decorator items decreased 10.2 percent over the year ending February 2018, and prices for major appliances decreased 4.2 percent. From February 2017 to February 2018, the price index for floor coverings increased 3.5 percent. The CPI-U for all items less food and energy increased 1.8 percent over the same period.
