The largest over-the-year employment increases occurred in New York-Newark-Jersey City, New York-New Jersey-Pennsylvania (+143,000), Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (+118,200), and Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land, Texas (+101,800). The largest over-the-year percentage gains in employment occurred in Midland, Texas (+10.1 percent), Atlantic City-Hammonton, New Jersey (+7.8 percent), and Mankato-North Mankato, Minnesota (+7.1 percent).

Over the year, nonfarm employment rose in 38 of 51 metropolitan areas with a 2010 Census population of 1 million or more, while employment remained essentially unchanged in 13. The largest over-the-year percentage increases in employment in these large metropolitan areas occurred in Orlando Kissimmee-Sanford, Florida (+4.3 percent), and Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise, Nevada, and Raleigh, North Carolina (+3.9 percent each).
