Hawaii had the lowest unemployment rate among the states in June 2018, 2.1 percent. The rate in Oregon (4.0 percent) set a new series low. (All state series begin in 1976.) Alaska had the highest jobless rate in June, 7.1 percent.

Sixteen states had unemployment rates significantly lower than the U.S. rate of 4.0 percent in June 2018. Six states and the District of Columbia had unemployment rates that were significantly higher than the U.S. rate, and 28 states had rates that were not significantly different from the national rate.
