El Centro, California (21.2 percent), and Yuma, Arizona (16.1 percent), had the highest unemployment rates. Ames, Iowa, and Burlington-South Burlington, Vermont, had the lowest unemployment rates, 1.3 percent each. A total of 188 areas had October jobless rates below the national rate of 3.3 percent, 182 areas had rates above it, and 19 areas had rates equal to that of the nation.
