From December 2019 to December 2020, nonfarm payroll employment decreased in 232 metropolitan areas, increased in 2 areas, and was essentially unchanged in 155 areas. The largest over-the-year percentage losses in employment occurred in Kahului-Wailuku-Lahaina, Hawaii (−22.4 percent), Monroe, Michigan (−16.4 percent), and Flagstaff, Arizona (−15.1 percent). Over-the-year increases in employment occurred in Ogden-Clearfield, Utah (+8,100, or +3.0 percent), and Idaho Falls, Idaho (+3,100, or +4.9 percent).
