Export air passenger fares declined 7.2 percent over the year ended September 2023

Export air passenger fares, which measure payments to U.S. carriers by foreign residents for international air transportation, declined 7.2 percent over the year ended September 2023. This was the largest 12-month decline since fares fell 11.5 percent over the year ended July 2020.

From September 2022 to September 2023, export air passenger fares from Asia declined 6.8 percent. A 12.3-percent decrease in fares from Japan and a 3.4-percent decrease in fares from other Asian countries contributed to the decline.
Latin America/Caribbean fares fell 6.3 percent over the year, due in part to a 12.0-percent decline in fares from Central/South America.
Export air passenger fares from Europe rose 1.8 percent, as a 7.7-percent decline in fares from the United Kingdom was more than offset by a 2.9-percent rise in fares from other European countries.
