Dec. jobless rates up in 15 states, down in 1; payroll jobs little changed in all states

In December, unemployment rates were higher in 15 states, lower in 1 state, and stable in 34 states and the District of Columbia. Nonfarm payroll employment was essentially unchanged in all 50 states and the District.

December jobless rates up over the year in 230 of 389 metro areas; payroll jobs up in 61

Jobless rates were higher in December than a year earlier in 230 of the 389 metropolitan areas, lower in 128, and unchanged in 31. Nonfarm payroll employment increased over the year in 61 metropolitan areas and was essentially unchanged in 328.

Jobless rates down in 49 states in 2022; employment-population ratios up in 36 states

Annual average unemployment rates decreased in 49 states and the District of Columbia in 2022, while the rate was little changed in 1 state. Employment-population ratios increased in 36 states and the District and were little changed in 14 states.

Unemployment rates higher in 214 metro areas in year ended November 2023

Unemployment rates were higher in November than a year earlier in 214 of the 389 metropolitan areas, lower in 158 areas, and unchanged in 17 areas. A total of 15 areas had jobless rates of less than 2.0 percent and 6 areas had rates of at least 8.0 percent. The national unemployment rate in November was 3.5 percent, not seasonally adjusted, little changed from a year earlier. read more »
