May jobless rates down in 38 states, up in 3; payroll jobs up in 46 states, down in 106/19/2020
In May, unemployment rates were lower in 38 states and the District of Columbia,
higher in 3 states, and stable in 9 states. Nonfarm payroll employment increased
in 46 states, decreased in 1 state and the District, and remained unchanged in 3
states.
May jobless rates up over the year in all 389 metro areas; payroll jobs down in 35707/01/2020
Jobless rates were higher in May than a year earlier in all 389 metropolitan areas.
Nonfarm payroll employment was down in 357 metropolitan areas over the year and
essentially unchanged in 32. Current

Annual average unemployment rates in 2019 decreased in 10 states, increased in 1,
and were little changed in 39 states and the District of Columbia. Employment-
population ratios increased in 16 states, decreased in 2, and were little changed
