and the District of Columbia. Nonfarm payroll employment decreased in 2 states and was essentially
unchanged in 48 states and the District.

metropolitan areas, lower in 98, and unchanged in 19. Nonfarm payroll employment
increased over the year in 32 metropolitan areas, decreased in 1, and was
essentially unchanged in 356.
