Compensation costs for civilian workers increased 2.3 percent for the 12 months ending September 2016. Costs for wages and salaries increased 2.4 percent over that period, while the costs for benefits rose 2.3 percent.

Among the major industry groups, compensation cost increases for private industry workers for the 12 months ending September 2016 ranged from 1.7 percent for professional and business services to 3.6 percent for leisure and hospitality.
