In March 2019, there were 1.4 million job openings in professional and business services and 1.2 million in health care and social assistance. Leisure and hospitality was the only other industry with more than 1.0 million job openings in March 2019.
Professional and business services has had over 1.0 million job openings in most months since 2015. The number of job openings in health care and social assistance surpassed 1.0 million in two months in 2015 and has been above that level in most months since mid 2016. Job openings in leisure and hospitality have been over 1.0 million most months since mid 2018.
The retail trade industry is the only other industry that has had more than 1.0 million job openings in any month during the last decade. It was above the 1.0 million level in five months during 2018, though it has been below this level recently.
