In November 2019, seven states had jobless rate decreases from a year earlier, 2 states had increases, and 41 states and the District of Columbia had little or no change. Over the same period, the national unemployment rate, 3.5 percent, was little changed.

From November 2018 to November 2019, Alabama had the largest unemployment rate decrease (−1.1 percentage points), followed by Colorado (−1.0 point), South Carolina and Utah (−0.8 percentage point each). Mississippi (+0.9 percentage point) and Nebraska (+0.3 percentage point) were the only states with significant unemployment rate increases over that period.
