Trade, transportation, and utilities had 1.47 million job openings in January 2019

The number of job openings was little changed at 7.6 million on the last business day of January 2019. Hires (5.8 million) and separations (5.6 million) were also little changed over the month. Among major industries, trade, transportation, and utilities had the most job openings (1.47 million), followed by education and health services (1.39 million).

Within professional and business services, there were 1.13 million hires in January 2019. Trade, transportation, and utilities had 1.13 million hires, while leisure and hospitality industries had 1.1 million hires.

In the federal government there were 122,000 job openings, 36,000 hires, and 33,000 separations in January 2019.
