Nationwide, the ratio of unemployed persons per job opening was 0.5 in September 2022, as there were 5,753,000 unemployed people and 10,717,000 job openings.

The number of job openings by state ranged from about 25,000 in Vermont and Wyoming to over one million in Texas and California. The number of job openings increased in 10 states, decreased in 1 state, and was little changed in 39 states and the District of Columbia in September 2022.
