Utah’s unemployment rate was 2.2 percent in November 2022, the lowest among all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Minnesota and North Dakota had unemployment rates of 2.3 percent, the next lowest rates in the nation.

In November 2022, Nevada had the highest unemployment rate (4.9 percent), followed by Illinois (4.7 percent). The District of Columbia, with an unemployment rate of 4.6 percent, set a low since the data began in 1976.

The national unemployment rate was 3.7 percent in November 2022. Seventeen states had unemployment rates lower than the national unemployment rate, 6 states and the District of Columbia had higher rates, and 27 states had rates that were not appreciably different from that of the nation.
