Sept. jobless rates up in 8 states, down in 2; payroll jobs up in 1 state, down in 1

In September, unemployment rates were higher in 8 states, lower in 2 states, and stable in 40 states and the District of Columbia. Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 1 state, decreased in 1 state, and was essentially unchanged in 48 states and the District.
