states, and stable in 45 states and the District of Columbia. Nonfarm
payroll employment was essentially unchanged in all 50 states and the
District.

metropolitan areas, lower in 84, and unchanged in 18. Nonfarm payroll
employment increased over the year in 23 metropolitan areas, decreased
in 2, and was essentially unchanged in 362.
