Payroll employment edges up 119,000 in September; unemployment rate changes little at 4.4%

Total nonfarm payroll employment edged up in September (+119,000),
and the unemployment rate changed little at 4.4 percent. Employment
trended up in health care, food services and drinking places, and
social assistance. Transportation and warehousing and federal
government lost jobs.
